Life Group Questions

1.  D. Martyn Lloyd Jones declared the worship team is to be the war department of the church.  What do you need God to defeat in your life?

2.  Have you found yourself getting caught up in traditionalism, ritualism, or formalism?  If so, how did you break free?

3.  How do you see the balance between reverent and celebrative worship, structured and spontaneous worship, or testimonial and theological worship?

4.  In his message, Pastor Paul said that we should be captivated by the worth of the Lord.  When we realize His worth, our relationships and rulership will expand.  What effects have you seen in your relationships and rulership as you have grown closer to Him as a worshiper?

Sermon Notes

Singing In The Reign

Romans 5:17
For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

Praise and Worship Connects Us to the Throne

I Chron. 15:16
Then David spoke to the chiefs of the Levites to appoint their relatives the singers, with instruments of music, harps, lyres, loud-sounding cymbals, to raise sounds of joy.

I Chron. 15:27-28
Now David was clothed with a robe of fine linen with all the Levites who were carrying the ark, and the singers and Chenaniah the leader of the singing with the singers. David also wore an ephod of linen. Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the Lord with shouting, and with sound of the horn, with trumpets, with loud-sounding cymbals, with harps and lyres.

I Chron. 16:4&37
He appointed some of the Levites as ministers before the ark of the Lord, even to celebrate and to thank and praise the Lord God of Israel:

So he left Asaph and his relatives there before the ark of the covenant of the Lord to minister before the ark continually, as every day’s work required;

2 Sam 23:1
Now these are the last words of David.
David the son of Jesse declares,
The man who was raised on high declares,
The anointed of the God of Jacob,
“And the sweet psalmist of Israel,”

The Worship Team to be the war department
Music will endure forever!

Praise and Worship Should Be Controlled by the Spirit and Word of God

John 4:24
God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

Ephesians 5:18&19
"And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;"

Jack Hayford writes:
"In psalms, we declare His Word; in hymns we announce His Works; in spiritual songs, we welcome His Will -- giving place to the Holy Spirit's refilling and making place for His word to dwell richly within."

Praise and Worship Should Be Characterized by Joy and Celebration to the Lord

Psalms 81:1&2
Sing for joy to God our strength;
Shout joyfully to the God of Jacob.
Raise a song, strike the timbrel,
The sweet sounding lyre with the harp.

Psalms 95:1-3
O come, let us sing for joy to the Lord,
Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation.
Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving,
Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.
For the Lord is a great God
And a great King above all gods,
