1 Sam 16:13
Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward. And Samuel arose and went to Ramah.

1 Samuel 10:1
Then Samuel took the flask of oil, poured it on his head, kissed him and said, “Has not the Lord anointed you a ruler over His inheritance?

Then the men of Judah came and there anointed David king over the house of Judah.

2 Samuel 5:3
So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them before the Lord at Hebron; then they anointed David king over Israel.

1 John 2:20, 27
But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know.

What is the anointing?

The residence of the Holy Spirit’s presence in and the release of His power either upon us or through us for intimacy and ministry with Him.
